Sports Committee

ACS is synonymous with sports. Where is sports there will be ACS. Like they say, habits die hard. This tradition of sports naturally has crept into the spirit of ACS OBA members also. Sports in the OBA are as old as the OBA itself.

In the early eighties, the OBA was actively involved in the Klang District Hockey League. We were a force to be reckoned with. Great stalwarts of the sporting fraternity fuelled the flames of the ACS OBA in its glorious yester years and projected the ACS OBA as a body to be admired. In the eighties, the ACS OBA took part in the inter-OBA games with High School and La Salle OBAs. Games played then were football, hockey and golf.

Till today golf is very much active at Intra and Inter OBA levels. Kwong Hua Ex-Pupils Association has joined us to make Inter OBA golf a quadrangular event. It is hoped that more quadrangular sporting events can be organized.

The OBA used to have friendly games with the ACS school staff for many good years. Games included volleyball, badminton, table-tennis, etc. Hopefully this trend can be rejuvenated to foster a closer rapport between OBA and ACS school staff.

In the year 2000, the OBA decided to introduce the Family Walk to get members and their families to participate. The idea became a great success, thanks to Mr. Serjeet Singh, an active Old Boy and former Committee member of the OBA.

The walk which is deemed non-competitive attracted the likes of committee members, their families, students, teachers and children. The walk took the participants from ACS to and around the neighborhood for a good 5km and then back to the school. After the walk, the participants were treated to a good breakfast and prizes were given out to children and adults for some of the most novel reasons. Prizes are usually sponsored by the OBA Committee members.

Eventually the Family Walk found its way to Taman Pertanian in Shah Alam. The Walk takes us through some small forest areas, mini zoo etc. As usual, after the walk, the participants are treated to a sumptuous breakfast, brunch and lots of prizes plus goodie bags. The Annual Family Walk has now become the Annual Family Day of the OBA in view of its popularity and participation.

The OBA’s 10th Aniversary Family Walk in the year of our Golden Jubilee was held on June 12th, 2011 at the same venue, attracting more than 65 participants and indeed it was a huge success.

The OBA is looking forward to organizing less strenuous games like Bowling, Tennis, Badminton and Softball on a social basis. With the co-operation of the Committee members and the OBA Fraternity, hopefully we can look forward to more sporting events. Members will be kept duly informed in due course.
